Important February 2026 Tax Deadlines for Individuals

Welcome to your February 2026 tax update! Stay ahead with essential details about estimated tax payment options, tip reporting obligations, and W-4 exemption renewals.

February 2 - Filing for Individuals with Estimated Tax Payments

If you missed the January 15 deadline for your estimated tax payment, you have the option to file your 2025 income tax return using Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR by February 2. Filing, along with full payment by this date, can help you avoid penalties on the final installment. Missed this? You still have until April 15 to file and pay.

February 10 - Tip Reporting for Tipped Employees

Did you earn $20 or more in tips last January? It’s time to report them to your employer. You can use IRS Form 4070 or a self-written document with your signature, name, address, Social Security number, employer's details, reporting period, and the total tip amount. Employers will deduct FICA and income taxes for these tips from your wages. If there's a shortfall, it will be mentioned in box 8 of your W-2, requiring you to pay the difference when filing your tax return.

February 17 - Renewing Withholding Exemptions

Individuals who claimed a tax withholding exemption on last year’s W-4 need to submit a new form by February 17 to maintain their exemption status for this year.

Special Situations: Weekends, Holidays, and Disasters

If a deadline lands on a weekend or a legal holiday, it will automatically move to the next business day. Additionally, those in designated disaster areas may benefit from extended filing deadlines. Check the latest updates from FEMA or the IRS by visiting their websites:
